Jimmy and Tam’s living space is the smallest. And then, Sarah and George get the largest house but the same amount of money as the rest. There is no parity on the Block. It would make the most sense for the budget to be allocated according to the square meters of each space. If Jimmy and Tam had made their kitchen smaller, then where would they have put all the appliances they won? And, if they had made it smaller, the judges would have slammed them for it. If they had chosen a size-appropriate table, they would have been slammed… Read more »
Unrelated but I can’t find anywhere else to discuss… This is the first season I’ve ever watched. Jimmy and Tam’s style to me doesn’t feel as great as the judges are rating it. Their style feels like the type of thing that is nice because an expert says it’s nice/ expensive. But it kind of looks like design on a budget. That retro kitchen did not have the same expensive, luxury look as every other kitchen. But of course it had a lot of expensive things in it. It feels like they’re good stylists when they’ve been given good character… Read more »
Jimmy and Tam’s house is not for everyone. It’s def for a niche mkt. I would LOVE to stay there for a week/weekend. But I wouldn’t want to live in it. It has been beautifully designed and executed. And that’s why the judges love it. It’s fun and different and would look great in a mag. They just need 2 buyers who love that style. Fwiw. I, too, love harry and Tash’s house. It’s the one I would buy. My husband grew up around the corner. It’s the light. Anyone who has lived in (awesome) Melbourne, knows how much that… Read more »
100% agree! If Jimmy and Tam’s were an Air BnB, it would be amazing. And there have been moments when I could see that Tam is naturally talented–like the BR with the fireplace–and Jimmy is a hard worker and clever.
But that kitchen/living/dining area in terms of living permanently is almost offensive. It’s utilitarian look was my least favorite; but my biggest issue was how the living/dining area didn’t stand up to the deluxe kitchen. It was like a small restaurant attached a 4-person family home’s living area.
Will def check out some older seasons. Thanks for the recommendation!
On the same page. Totally agree. And the decision to omit a dining table was short sighted. Where do you seat a 3 yo child or your 93 yo grandma? What about Xmas lunch or a similar celebration? Maybe given the insane amount of cash they have, they could build some kind of enclosable outdoor dining area. But….still. Cheers
their style is so meh and meh, they have polarised themselves into a corner with a style that simply has zero mass market appeal, I still believe it will not do well at auction, in fact I feel it will probably fail to sell. I also believe it is fair to say that houses one to four are at a disadvantage as house five was extensively rebuilt and that should have been reflected in the overall budgets, Harry may be an abrasive person BUT he was right to say that house five had it easy. Overall I do feel the… Read more »
Fail to sell?! I didn’t know that was an option. I thought it just wouldn’t make back it’s money. I’m guessing someone will buy it but that it won’t be as valuable as Jimmy and Tam have been led to believe. In some ways, I feel for them because they’ve been led to believe that they’re doing well. Perhaps if they had been given better feedback along the way, they would’ve changed their approach and decision-making. As an American, that look is not popular here either. Jimmy and Tam’s style in particular is lacking in sophistication and refinement. It’s not… Read more »

I have been continually frustrated by the unevenness of the architectural designs. How did Jimmy and Tam end up with such a small great room, and Harry and Tash with such a huge one? It is all well and good to say that Jimmy and Tam should have put in a dining table, but should they have shrunk their kitchen down small enough to fit one? Then, what would the judges have said? Does anyone honestly think that any of them would have said, “Oh, look. a small but perfectly formed kitchen.” Yeah, I don’t think so.

I knew who had won garage week two weeks ago, the fix was in, can anyone tell me what happens if contestants have money left over after all the work is done ,do they get to keep the money for themselves?

But, Jimmy and Tam chose that house. They knew it had a smaller living room and the pros and cons that came with that house.
I’m not saying that Jimmy and Tam should get less money for their room. I’m saying that Sarah and George should have got more.
