I don’t think the boys received satisfactory answers or achieved much trying to educate Dan & Keith about their white privilege and full on unconscious bias towards their religion or cultural practices. I noticed how I myself perceived the comments they made early on & red flagged my own stereo typical thinking. I’m glad it was brought to attention but Dan’s on camera response was defensive & dismissive. He didn’t accept or acknowledge any of the boys reality.

Watching from Canada, I was very happy to see this difficult conversation happening. It has been nice to see some increased diversity in Block contestants but I was worried that bias was creeping into some of the scrutiny of Omar and Oz’s work and the commentary on it as well as that of Ankur and Sharon. The conversation with Dan did give him and the viewers a chance to pause and reflect on how words can be interpreted differently depending on a person’s background and can perpetuate negative stereotypes. It’s so hard to watch, I am Caucasian, but watching the perceived by Bias not only by the show staff, but also people that are commenting, on some of the videos seem very negative. Should I say against people who may be different.
